Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite TV Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a new, regular feature on Girl vs Books,  hosted by Jamie at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is Fall TV, so I’ve gone for Top Ten Favourite TV Shows and I’m already sweating because oh God, how do you pick? It’s like picking your favourite book. Or dog. IMPOSSIBLE. Because here’s the deal: There’s LOADS of good TV shows around. Tons. Especially for someone like me, who likes a good binge-watch (and will post this post and only realise afterwards that I’ve left off one of my favourite shows ever, but here goes. *Gulps nervously*

1. The Big Bang Theory

I confess, The Big Bang Theory is not amazing as it goes into season 10. The past couple of seasons haven’t been as good, but seasons 1-7 are stellar. I regularly re-watch, sometimes not even really paying attention, but it’s comforting to watch it. And Sheldon Cooper will always be one of the greatest characters ever created.

2. How I Met Your Mother

Controversial pick, considering how polarising season 9 was, but I loved it right up until the very end. I remember watching the two-part finale as soon as I could, like early in the morning, and just crying. Because to me it was perfect. It’s one of the best sitcoms ever created, and I’m re-watching it at the moment. I’m even tempted to try and do a “Ten best HIMYM episodes”. (Watch this space)

3. Arrow/The Flash/Supergirl

CHEATING (But this will not be the last). I loved Arrow first, and the first two seasons of Arrow were spectacular. Season 2 in particular was the best season of television ever seen. Yes, I SAID IT. Then The Flash came along and it was cute and funny and amazing, and then slightly confusing (with all those other worlds) but still spectacular and now we have Supergirl, and although I wasn’t massively hyped on the first couple of episodes, once  I got into it, that was it. I was hooked! I cannot wait to see the epic cross-over this year, because the past Flarrow crossovers have been SO GOOD.

4. The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries is one of those shows that just always got better. And while it might be tiring a little bit, it will always be a firm favourite. I am absolutely devastated that the last season is coming up. I used to get excited EVERY TIME I WATCHED AN EPISODE. My heart would pound and every death felt like a personal, family death. I can’t wait to re-watch it, once it does end because it will be amazing.

5. Chicago Fire/Chicago PD/Chicago Med

CHEATING AGAIN. *GASPS* They’re basically one show, what with all the characters popping up everywhere. And here is how I rate them: Med > Fire > PD. Mostly because Chicago Med blew my socks off during its first season, I loved it. But they’re all awesome. How they managed to get Voight into PD and make us like him? Should have been impossible but it happened. And Fire is just ridiculously good and I enjoy every soap-y minute of all three.

6. Suits

I may be wrong, but I think this is the only lawyer-type show currently on air? IDK. Until Chicago Justice anyway. I THINK, but even if it isn’t, it’s the best. We are on season 6 (which astounds me) and it hasn’t jumped the shark, it’s never seemed tired, the writing and acting is amazing AND I LOVE HARVEY SPECTER OK?

7. Sabrina The Teenage Witch

I grew up with Sabrina the Teenage Witch (and Kenan & Kel and later Drake & Josh) and my over-riding feeling is so much happiness. Nickelodeon used to play all the episodes, all day, over Christmas and I remember video-taping them and buying the books and the magazine and I even got the DVDs for Christmas last year. It’s PERFECT and I still want my very own Salem Saberhagen. Oh, and magical powers.

8. Friends

I couldn’t not include Friends. Like TBBT & HIMYM it’s a classic and there’s nothing else to say.

9. Gilmore Girls

OK, so I haven’t technically finished Gilmore Girls. I’m on season 3 okay and I’m trying my best? I love the fast-paced nature, I love how cute it is and Lorelai and Rory are delightful (although Rory is not so delightful when it comes to Dean/Jess) but I’m so excited to get all the seasons watched before the new series. #TeamJess

10. Supernatural

Weirdly, I started watching Supernatural before I watch Gilmore Girls and I say it’s weird because Jared Padalecki is called Dean on Gilmore Girls and his brother in SPN is called Dean and it proper messes with your head. It’s BIZARRE. I am on season 6 of SPN and I love it. Especially Cas. And Dean. And Sam. But mostly Dean. I think.
