September Wrap-Up!

So here it is! My first ever wrap-up, which I thought would be a fun way to get away from just reviews all the time (I don’t want you guys to fall asleep on me!). September was a pretty amazing month for book releases – actually, every month is, you just don’t know it until you hear about all the amazing books on Twitter (follow me – @girlvsbooks_). I haven’t got any haul pics from what I got this month, but I am going to keep better track during October so we can discuss all the amazing books!

Books Read In September

Dan & Nat Got Married by Jon Rance ★★★★
Curious Minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton ★★★
The Assassin’s Blade by S.J. Maas ★★★★★
Christmas Under A Cranberry Sky by Holly Martin ★★★★★
Shadow of A Girl by Shannon Greenland ★★★★★
Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe by Debbie Johnson ★★★
Chasing Truth by Julie Cross ★★★★★
We Were On A Break by Lindsey Kelk ★★★1/2
The Row by J.R. Johannson ★★★1/2
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena ★★★
Super Awkward by Beth Garrod ★★★
The Secret by Katerina Diamond ★★★★★
Very British Problems by Rob Temple ★★★★★
Spells + Sorcery by S. Usher Evans ★★★1/2

I read an eclectic selection during September and my favourite was, by far, The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas. I won’t be doing a review – I’m reading the Throne of Glass series for fun, though I’ll write short bits on my GoodReads profile when I’ve read them. So go friend me on there, if you want to hear about those.

I was also pleasantly surprised by Chasing Truth. Actually, that’s a lie. I was blown away. It genuinely blew my mind, it was so good and I’m antsy already for the second Eleanor Ames book!

What disappointed me is how underwhelmed I was with some of my reads. You know how you get so excited for a book and it just falls flat, or is less than you expected? That happened with Lindsey’s and Debbie’s. They weren’t bad, but they weren’t all-out amazing as I wanted. *Sigh*

I got a review copy of Katerina Diamond’s new book The Secret which was amazing. I’ll be reviewing it in a couple of weeks, but it’s so good! (In the meantime, go read my review for The Teacher – but be warned, it’s gory). Katerina is the newest big name on the crime block but she isn’t half making her mark, with her fantastic plots, creepy writing, and gory scenes.

Other September stuff

Next month I shall do better – prep a TBR for the following month for one! Although if you ever do want to know what I’m reading you can always follow me on Instagram. It’s not bright and shiny with tons of props (I work, I do not have time to take pretty photos, sadly) but if you just want to see books, my Instagram is the place!

Yes, next month will be better, I swear. I’ll be way more prepared for starters, I may even do little mini reviews of the books I read, since some won’t be reviewed for ages and I’m always curious how a reader felt about books they’ve read each month (a la Cait at Paper Fury). I’ll leave you with some fab bloggers you really ought to visit, starting with Cait.

Basically, if you want to know how you do a monthly recap, go read Cait’s The Fury September because it is immense and I bow down to all her talents. I wish I were more like her – with the witty banter and RT-able tweets. I want to be her when I grow up.

Throne of Glass will be a TV series. HUZZAH. Sarah tweeted about a big announcement for a while and I knew it was either a TV show or movies. But TV show!!!!!! I haven’t even finished the books, but I’m so excited. Who will they cast? I HAVE NO IDEA BUT I’M STILL SO EXCITED.

Another blogger I always keep up with is Jen at Pop Goes The Reader, she is one of the greatest human beings, ever. Mostly I love her wallpapers (I’m using the “I love big books and I cannot lie” one presently), but she also writes amazing, thoughtful reviews (that make me want to cry in envy) and she does these amazing features no one could ever think of – her most recent is Raise Your Voice 2016 and I’m stoked to read all the posts that are coming up!

For my shame, I don’t keep up on as many blogs I would like, but Cait, Jen and Ashley at Nose Graze are always must reads for me. They all make me want to be a better blogger – hence this post, to try and do more than just write reviews! Wish me luck! 😉
